Charlotte Saves the Cougs

Picture if you will the BYU/Air Force basketball game Tuesday night, which happens to be Spencer's birthday. BYU started out the season nice and strong, but has been faltering lately. Air Force, on the other hand, hasn't won a conference game yet.
The Cougars pull out to an early lead, but in the second half, Air Force rallies to not only tie the score but to take the lead. That's when Eva's doll Charlotte springs into action. Charlotte begins dancing and cheering, and what do you know! The Air Force suddenly can't score anymore. The Cougars come raging back and finish the game 71-50, and it's all due to Charlotte's cheering, according to Charlotte's cheering coach Eva Terry. I was there and saw it all happen, and I can't argue with the facts.
The kids got to pet the falcon during the second half.
Happy Birthday, Spencer! We've had nine wonderful years with our enthusiastic boy.

Treats from Reiko

Here they are, mere moments after the package from Reiko arrived. The paper on the box has been torn, the tape is wadded up on the floor, and they're stuffing Pocky's into their mouths as fast as they can. Yum.

Also, there's a fledgling new blog we're working on with the Muratores of Muratore Academy, our sister homeschool in Dayton, Ohio:

There's not much to see yet, but we're working on it.

January

This is Spencer at the archery station at the Cub Scout Klondike. The idea behind the Klondike is that the kids spend the day having fun in very cold weather and learn to keep themselves warm, which helps them to be confident that they can take care of themselves. But as you can see, it wasn't very cold outside. They had hot chocolate anyway.
Here we are with our neighbor Caden at Boulder Falls. There are all kinds of signs in the canyon about college students who have died there rock climbing. Quite inspirational.
My cousin Brandon came along for the hike. See the resemblance?
Ben and Rach in front of the partially frozen falls.
Happy Birthday, Ben! This is the traditional mint chocolate chip ice cream cake. We'll make it again on Father's Day. Eva is very good at crushing the Oreos.
