This last weekend was epic. On Friday night we went bowling and to Applebee's for dessert because the kids had gotten passes and coupons from the library summer reading program. On Saturday morning we went to a friend's baptism, and while all the ward members were milling around eating cookies in the cultural hall afterward, we picked up tips. Backpacking tips. Then I went to Sprouts to get dried fruit and nuts and to King Soopers to get Sterno and Vienna sausages. Then we went to Roosevelt National Forest and went BACKPACKING. The kids did great. The hiking was great. The water was great (even after the iodine treatment). The scenery was great. The trail was muddy because there's still a lot of snow melting up there. The only thing that was decidedly not great was SLEEPING. Or rather NOT SLEEPING. Before we go backpacking again, we're going to have to take a long, hard look at sleeping equipment. We got home around lunchtime on Monday, got cleaned up, took naps, and got up in time to go to the Broomfield Commons and pet goats, dance to the concert, and watch fireworks. As you can see, the girls did not have a hard time sleeping on the backpacking trip. But you won't see any pictures of me dancing.
